Modern PHP is not the PHP of old

PHP is the language that powers a large share of the web, and it has changed a lot since it earned its old reputation. Modern versions bring optional strong typing, steady performance improvements and a mature dependency manager in Composer. With static analysis tools and automated testing, today's PHP code is as structured and verifiable as code in any serious back-end language.

It is our foundation: Laravel and WordPress, two pillars of our work, are both built on PHP. We write typed PHP, covered by tests and checked with static analysis, because code someone else will maintain needs to be readable before it is clever. We are also honest about limits: for real-time processing or applications that demand a different execution model, we consider other languages.

Modernizing legacy systems is one of our specialties. Many companies run old PHP systems that work but worry everyone: no tests, no types, no documentation. We migrate these codebases in stages, upgrading versions, adding tests and reorganizing the code without stopping the operation. For the people paying for it, that means not throwing away a system the business depends on: it means giving it more years of safe, maintainable life.
